Garden design and planting in Eastergate

Looking for a garden designer in Eastergate? Naomi Ferrett-Cohen plans gardens and planting for homes in Eastergate and the villages around it, including Barnham and Fontwell. She is an RHS Chelsea Silver-Gilt medallist, and she comes to you by appointment, so she can see the garden and hear how you would like to use it.

Naomi starts with a hand sketch on paper, then builds a 3D model in SketchUp. You see the layout and the planting together before any work begins, and you decide at the end of each stage whether to carry on.

Gardens in the Eastergate area

Eastergate is a village in the Arun district of West Sussex, about five miles east of Chichester, and part of the parish of Barnham and Eastergate. The older part of the village, around Church Lane and Eastergate Square, is a conservation area, where flint walls, mature trees and hedgerows are part of the character. The parish also has newer residential areas.

That mix of old and new means no two Eastergate gardens start from the same place. A garden beside a flint boundary wall, with mature hedging, asks for a different plan from a plot at a newer home. Naomi starts with what you have and what is worth keeping.

Planting for an open, flat landscape

Eastergate sits on the flat West Sussex coastal plain, an open landscape of arable fields and market gardens. In a setting like this, planting does a lot of work: it gives a garden shelter, structure and privacy, and it frames the views.

At the first visit Naomi looks at your soil, your light and how exposed the garden feels, then chooses plants to suit, with the wetter winters and drier summers ahead in mind.

Questions about garden design in Eastergate

Does Naomi design gardens in Eastergate?
Yes. Naomi works with homeowners in Eastergate, Barnham, Fontwell and the villages around them, by appointment, from her base in Shoreham-by-Sea.
My home is in the older part of Eastergate. Does that change anything?
Eastergate has conservation areas around Church Lane and Eastergate Square. If your home is in one, mention it at the first visit so the plan allows for it, and check with Arun District Council before changing trees or boundary walls.
What happens when Naomi visits my Eastergate garden?
She spends about an hour with you in the garden, free of charge, looking at the space and hearing what you would like. Afterwards she will quote for the first stage, with no obligation.
