Wexham Park Hospital Garden

The structures of the RHS Chelsea 2021 NHS tribute garden, redesigned and rebuilt at Wexham Park Hospital as a calm place for patients, visitors and staff.

The garden

The structures in this garden come from the 2021 RHS Chelsea show garden, An NHS Tribute Garden: Finding Our Way. Naomi designed it for the University of Oxford and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as a celebration of the NHS and the relentless work of providing care and support during the COVID pandemic. The show garden’s plants went to Katharine House Hospice in Oxfordshire.

The show garden’s structures were redesigned and gifted to Wexham Park Hospital, where they were rebuilt in 2022 as a space for everyone to enjoy. The garden was remodelled to be fully accessible, with extra seating for patients and staff set among generous planting, so it is fully immersive.

The hospital bought the planting to Naomi’s design. Flowering perennials add vibrant dashes of colour against lush foliage, while ornamental grasses soften the effect and bring a feeling of calm. The wooden arch gives a sense of safe enclosure, with dappled light drawing people in to sit and relax.

Naomi and her team transformed a once empty, under-used space into a tranquil, restful place for quiet contemplation and the enjoyment of nature.

An excellent project between Naomi, her team, Chelsea Flower Show at Wexham Park Hospital. A garden called ‘Finding your way’ dedicated to the NHS in 2021 show. Our hospital charity funded the transfer and install of the garden, which took its own personality once in situ. The area now offers so much to so many. Colour, textures, attracts wildlife for our patient’s, visitors and staff to truly take time in and find harmony and peace. Naomi is a true delight to work with and we hope to do more projects in the future. Thank you from hundreds of people who have already enjoyed the garden coming up to its first birthday on 5th July.
